Hi all,

Thanks for reading,
Just out of curiosity, how do you guys prepare for the toefl?

Thanks

I got hold of the Kaplan iBT TOEFL computer program and did their practice tests, worked quite well.

I started preparing for the TOEFL when I was 8. :D

Uhm… you can’t actually prepare for it. Its a test of your fluency.

I didn’t think I needed a lot of preparation, and BAM! I’m out of date! Now I have to take the IELTS and I’m freakin’ out!! the whole structure is so damn different!..
If I’m lucky enough I’ll take it on dec 11th. If not I;m screwed!!! The next available dates for the Toefl and the IELTS are in January!! around the 10ish…

I am just wondering if the IELTS test is harder than TOFEL test

@aprillove20 I am not sure, Im taking it next Saturday. But I think it is, I was looking at some test samples and OMG!, the IELTS is so weird and looks difficutl. Darn I was ready for the TOEFL

Just took it 2 days ago. They use a lot of high-level words (obviously). The only problem is the speaking part, I had a hard time to concentrate on speaking because the person next to me speak sooo loud.

Pitchounette, you mean the ielts? so is it harder?

Ugh I hate that kind of annoying people, yesterday I took the SAT, and next to me there was the most annyoing kid Ive ever seen!!! When he was on math section I was on Reading, and he was counting out loud!!! so distracting, and when we were on the last sections, the ones that are reading reading reading, he was moving his leg and his hand making a weird distracting noise! I wanted to kill him!

Barron’s Toefl is not bad. But,Toefl’s reading and writing section are not that hard. I m just worried for listening section. My not-so-smart friend is working on both IELTS and TOEFL.She say IELTS is so much fun :)

I have never taken TOEFL, I took IELTS back in October and all I can say it looks harder than it is. I actually did a terrible thing and came to the test without any prep, but eventually I got more than I expected. A fine overall band score 7, makes me a match even for the very best schools
What I am so much more concerned about is the upcoming ACT test, due to participation in an international competition, I had to miss the SAT (and the next test date wasn’t available in my country), so now I need to take the ACT which seems much more harder to me. In practice tests I score from 29-34 in math, but science just ruins it all for me So the overall score is usually around 24-26… Despite that I still plan on taking the January SAT, I hope it won’t be too late.

theaferi, I’m taking the IELTS this saturday, I hope it isnt as hard as it seems, Ill trust ya lol jk, but seriously so far I think the TOEFL is way easier. I hope the IELTS is at least fun :s
I didnt take the ACT, and honestly I think the SAT is easier, but then again Im a total fraud when it comes to tests, I SUCK! from the brochure the act looks harder but because of the science stuff and all that. Im taking the SAT II’s in Jan, it isnt too late, is the latest testing date at most schools

So pau, first of all, good luck!
Be aware that listening is kinda trying to mislead you all the time (my facial expression when the first passage ended, was pretty undescribable :D), reading seemed easy peasy, uhh the writing, no advice, I only got 6 :(, even though I thought I did a nice essay. And speaking for me was extremely awkward, despite that, frankly I think the examinator overestimated me, because I thought it was extremely terrible :D
And about the SAT- yes I can still take the regular SAT and most def I’ll do that, however I can’t manage to take the Subjects :(

Thanks a lot theaferi
Why don’t you take the SAT II’s instead of the SAT if you are taking the ACT anyway?
Thanks for the tips the ielts people sent me a link to practise, 30 hours of practise (great! they sent it one day before the test, what for 30 hours of practise then o_0) I’ll spend all day on the listening.
When are u talking the ACT?

I took it yesterday. I did it even worse than I expected. The essay and math section which were both supposed to be my strengths will not be that great at all I don’t want to take Subjects because I want to show the offices that ACT is not really my thing and I can do much better at SAT. Besides I have no idea which subject (except for math 1) to take…

^I’m sure you will figure it out soon :)

ALL THE BEST GENTLEMEN!

Hey, I was just wondering…have any of you guys encountered the EXACT SAME questions from past TOEFL tests? I took the TOEFL in August then retook it last week, and one of the Listening sections was EXACTLY the same. Does that happen often, since they do have the test multiple times a year?
