How do you guys study for math? I am just wondering because I usually just redo the problems we did in class (Algebra 2) etc and although it is kind of working I feel there must be a better way to do it. Any suggestions, what do you do, and for what amount of time do you this?

I look over my notes and try and remember what my teacher stressed and look for problems in the book that are fairly similar aznd do them. If i get liek 2/2 or 3/3 right, I move on. However, if i get one wrong i do about 5 - 7 of those questions.

I was always told the best way to study for a math test is to get a good amount of sleep the night before. It's true...you probably know how to do the material, and it's the little mistakes such as an incorrect sign here and there, or adding incorrectly, that will screw you up. You are more prone to those mistakes if you don't get enough sleep.

Math is so simple because once you understand the concepts, it's just a matter of practice.
The night before a test, I go through my notes for the section we're being tested on and just rewrite all the forumlas, etc that I'll need to know. Having them all down on one sheet of paper is helpful.

I don't.

It's math. Just use your brain. I dunno. I think if you know the basics it's not hard to figure out. Just pay attention in class.

If there is something you REALLY struggle with, do those review problems.

Don't redo problems you've already done before. Look around for new problems.

I agree about the sleep thing, you have to know the basic concepts, but being sharp is really important too. Also, remember to check your work if you have time. I was exhausted the day of my math final, as it was on the last day of finals, and I had gotten probably three hours of sleep the night before, I got a 76, about 20 points lower than my average math score. Luckily, I still got an A in the class, and I will not make that mistake again.

I just do all the problems relating to what the test will be on. We don't have to take notes in class, but sometimes I write down what my teacher says if it's something I should remember. Most of the time I'll never go back to it. My teacher also told us about the sleep thing, and that sleep will help process the information in our mind. He also told us to go watch a movie the day before the test, and that cramming for math doesn't usually work.

i usually look over the formulas again and do the worksheets given to us

Look over your examples in your book: most problems can be solved because they are similar to an example. Do A LOT of practice; in the sense, don't cram and do a million problems on the night before, but do extra problems in the section instead of simply finishing off the assignment. That extra practice will stick with you and you may not even need to study.

That strategy has worked for me for years... still never studied for a math test (not because of intelligence, but only because I do the extra practice). There's absolutely no substitute for practice.

Typically, if you pay attention in class and actively participate, you don't really need to study.
