how do YOU handle reading passages on the sat

hi, tell me what you got on the reading section of the sat and tell me exactly how you studied, and what your method is while taking the test. for example, do you just go straight to the questions and then look at the text, or do you read the whole thing?

Have you tried asking this question on the SAT/ACT forum?

Anyway, aside from taking lots of practice tests, I didn't really do much studying. The night before my test, I quickly looked over one of those lists of the most common SAT vocab words. A few of those words actually showed up on my exam, although knowing what they meant didn't help all that much.

I'm a fast reader, so when I get critical reading passages, I first read through the whole thing. Then I go to the questions, and I try to answer all of them. At the end, I usually have some time left to go back and reread the passage and check my answers.

When I read the questions, I try to have an idea of what the answer is (or where to find the answer if line numbers aren't provided) before I actually look at the choices. If I get hung up on a question, I pick the one that is most relevant to the main idea of the passage.

what did you get on the reading section? what score?

800

But my method obviously doesn't work for everyone, and I don't think it's so much as my method as practice that allowed me to do well.
