How do you handle this aspect of passages?

You come across a question and you realize that you don't understand it because you didn't understand the passage completely when you read it the first time through, and you all of a sudden become frantic because you don't want to read the passage again, and when you do read it, you read it very quickly so you don't get the meaning again, and then you waste time. Just that one part of the passage, that one idea, and sometimes the whole passage.

If you want to just decide to try and get the meaning before, you also have to consider the fact that you don't want to read too closely because you're supposed to do a good skim and not look at every detail.

skip the question.

wow..thats the exact same scenario i get into...i've been wondering what to do also

You could try reading the questions before the passage so that you know what you're looking for.

Last setence of first paragraph.
First sentence of second paragraph.
Last sentence of last paragraph.

how do you get into this situation? AS SOON AS YOU DONT UNDERSTAND SOMETHING, GO BACK

three letters, POE

when you read it don't u get a feel for the author's point of view and voice? and by knowing the author's stand on the issue you can choose the correct answer. also, choices that are too extreme a difinitely wrong. if you are aiming for a 800 CR score, guess.

^i'm such a hypocrite -.-''. i wish i listened to my own advice. i always go back and not understand it and move on and not end up having enough time.

I did all 8 practice tests in the Blue Book and was pro at POE, and since January I haven't done too many practice tests(just 3) so I've gotten extremely rusty. When you read those choices, you don't want to go be pumped up to cross them out, but if you take them too slowly, you convince yourself that it could be right. Ever since I've tried to solve without POE(as in look for the right answer or guess the answer before looking at the choices), I keep getting side tracked. If I do my POE, sometimes I might spend too much time on a question. Well I'll take another practice test this weekend and fix it, though I wish I could take it sometime this week, but with school and everything it's hard.
