I have been looking at some posts in the "What are my chances" forum and I am so bewildered. How does one handle all those EC's, all those AP's, maintain a 4.0+ GPA and get a good SAT on a DAILY BASIS? I dont understand. I am a sophomore, I have one AP, mostly Honors classes, hardly any EC's so far, just one club, trying to start a business and yet I am swamped.

I plan to do a wide variety of EC's this year but seeing my situation now I am becoming very weary.. maybe I am lacking good time management skills?

How do you guys handle it? Please mention the activities that consume your time on a day to day basis and a week to week basis. Also mention what college you are aiming for. Put any details as you can and any tips you might have for me and others.

How do you balance sports, EC's, academics, a job etc?

It is for me. Because when I'm in a crunch, I'm so much more focused than when I have free-time, so thus it makes me more productive. Maybe I'm the only one like that.

i would be interested in some other answers. Bit celebrian, I can't procrasinate. I get very stressed the next day...not good. And I need my sleep!

I'm just like you xyz. Non-procrastinator (usually), and I try to get enough sleep. Tonight's going to be an exception.

Oh, and the answer is magic. Use magic to manipulate time to your advantage. Careful though, if you screw up you could end up in another universe.

I am also coming to believe that I am also a non-procrastinator EXCEPT when it comes to assignments or projects that I am totally confused on, or the initial steps are complicated. Or, where I have to brainstorm or think ideas... usually when I am writing a paper, that is the most time consuming part; just brainstorming and thinking of a topic.

Im pretty much a procrastinator also but im good at it... at the end of the school day i look over all my short assignments and save those for the next day during school... I always try to get a blowoff class 1st period to get work done but still get a credit this time i got retail operations... As for time... In the first semester I have DECA but that doesnt really take much time since im competing in the same event that i was a state finalist in last year... Im also a top track athlete but that doesnt start til spring... In most of my college apps im recycling the same two essays that i wrote over the summer. I wrote national achievement essay in like 15 min.... basically the only time i actually spend on school is struggling my way through ap bio and ap calc.. most ppl are in a bunch of clubs that look like they take a lot of time but some only meet during a certain time of the week or year so they arent doing them all at the same time. The only tough thing is trying to build a job schedule around all your EC's.
I dont plan to go to any selective colleges even though im applying to miami(OH) just to say i got accepted. I took classes at Ohio Univ. over the summer and fell in love with it so thats probably where im going to go

I think I'm pretty good at managing my time, except for last night lol when I fell asleep in the middle of an essay and had to wake up and finish it.

It has been a huge challenge for me this year especially because I work about 20 hours a week and have 3 major ECs and 2 minor ones. My advice is: get homework done in advance if possible and always have a plan. Too many times I have "started" my homework only to get stressed out and sidetracked (sometimes to CC lol :p) because I didn't make a plan. It doesn't take much...just jot down what you have to do (both for homework and EC-related stuff).

i get up at 5:30 or 6:00 and do homework until 7:00, get ready, go tos chool, come home at 3:00, goof off until simpsons comes on at 6:00, watch that, take a nap, eat dinner, do homework, go to bed, get up early and do more work, repeat.

6:00 am wake up
7:30-11:00 school
11:40-5:00 internship
5:30-8:00 gym to work out
8:30-9:15 piano
9:15-10:00 stdy for standardized tests/college apps
10:00 shower/sleep

It's slightly different for the other days, like on Thu and Fri I typically don't have the internship, so I go home at 11:00 am

I DO have a social life, but I have no idea what I'm gonna do once mock trial season rolls around

My social life basically revolves around school and my ECs. Also (this is especially helpful if you are in a leadership position such as an officer in a club), delegating duties rules.

Celebrian, I'm with you too - I procrastinate, then when I'm in a time crunch I'm much more focused and retain information a lot better. The only thing that kills me is if I leave a book until the last day before the paper is due...I'm a slow reader, not much I can do about that. Everything else though, procrastination does wonders for.

6:30 AM - Wake up, study/finish homework
8:15 AM - Go to school for a club meeting (I have one at least everyday - it's a pain sometimes...)
9:00 AM - 4:00 PM - School
4:30 - 7:30/8:00 PM - Football
8:30 - 11:30/12:00 AM - Homework/Study

Rinse. Repeat. Games are on Fridays and on Saturday I have to be at school from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM for film and such. Texas football : Gotta love it. :)

I have only 4 AP classes now, however. Next semester, my double blocked football period will be replaced by AP Government and AP Eco. so I probably won't be receiving a break anytime soon. Senior year...who ever said it was easy?

Two nights ago I was up studying for a test until 1 and then the next day I woke up at 6 to go to school. I managed to survive and stay awake until 3 in the afternoon (after school ended) but right when I got home I wanted to just sleep...and I did...and at 10 at night I was totally full of energy...but I went to sleep at 11 and then today I totally stayed awake until about 7 but then while I was doing my homework, I just couldn't concentrate and my mind was just all fuzzy and I couldn't think. I had to read every sentence over like 20 times and I still couldn't get it...last year I got everything really fast and understood everything...but I haven't been on top of things this year.

Defenitely the lack of sleep. It is much better for you to not study and go to bed, and look over the material in the morning than it is to stay up all night studying. If you have to stay up to do homework and don't have a test the next day, it isn't as bad, but staying up and studying is a rat race: you will never win.

^I pretty much concur. What I do is I plan it out so I wake up earlier and go to bed earlier, so I can study in the morning. I do this if at all possible.
