Yeah, it was lack of sleep. But with enough practice you can master the art of concentrating with little energy.

Thanks for the input...

last year I was totally on top of things and I could read everything once and fully understand it and ace all the tests...but this year, let's just say it's not so great.

It's pretty weird actually.

I'm starting to doubt my abilities.

I'm in complete agreement with the above posters. . .Lack of sleep is everything! I've been getting maybe 5 hours a sleep a day during the schoolweek. On Friday, I get home at about 5 PM, and I go to sleep until 9 or 10 AM on Saturday. Then I do my homework, stay up late on the internet, and sleep for most of Sunday. Rinse and repeat.

But this year is horrible! I've been doing abysmally on Calc and Physics, and I'm gonna have to do the extra-credit project from he!! to get even an A- in that class. Sad times. And on top of that, SAT II's and college applications. I'm dying. . .can't wait for second semester!

Here's an idea:

Sleep? It seems to help me anyway.

It is much better for you to not study and go to bed, and look over the material in the morning than it is to stay up all night studying. If you have to stay up to do homework and don't have a test the next day, it isn't as bad, but staying up and studying is a rat race: you will never win.

it really depends on when the test is.
If the test is first thing in the morning, it may be that you actually have more energy without sleep. If it's later in the day, that could be a problem.

wow...I thought I was the only one who stayed up all night doing hw. Most people I know would just not do it or do it during other classes. lol. Gotta love CC.

LadyinRed...I definitely agree that the time of the day of the test affects your performance if you didn't get much sleep. OMG it is horrible to go through a test right before lunch with 5-6 hours of sleep.

hm. im a junior, and my fall schedule has been something like this since freshman yr:

7:15am- wake up
8am-3pm- school
3:15-5:30- XC practice
6-9pm- swim practice (takes 30 min to get from school to swimming)
9:30-10:30- eat, shower, change etc
then procrastinate.. 6.5 hrs of sleep is normal.
weekends are ok... saturday: xc meet/ swim prac from 7:45-11:15am, then again from 4-6pm ; sunday: hw, swim prac 3:30-7pm

winter months are somewhat better, then spring is basically the same as fall except softball instead of xc.

i get so frustrated when people in school complain about getting only 6 hrs of sleep one night, when they get to go home right after school and do w/e they want. oh well.. i'm not doing any sports in college : )

btw, sorry if this is a bit off topic: do you think yr round swimming (see schedule above) for 9 yrs, HS swimming varsity 3 yrs (school didnt have a team freshman yr, we just went to some championship meets), varsity XC 4 yrs, and 4 yrs of softball (w/ previous baseball&softball experience) make up for not having many other ECs/clubs?

Oh my goodness? HOw can you do two sports and take 4 AP classes?

Well for normal people like me, I can barely do one sport a season w/5 AP classes. Usually ballet goes from 3-5 every night, and then I do homework from 6-12 with procrastination, aim, internet, and phone in between.

One tip:
-wake up early to study. Sometimes I go to sleep @ 12 and wake up at 4. It's much more productive than to sleep at 2 and wake up at 6. Do homework and study for tests when you are alert. that helps.

Also: COFFEE!!!!!!!! three hours of sleep+3 cups of coffee=sets the curve for APUSH test.

I have 4APs and take an APPHYB~equiv @ local CC at night.

I don't sleep very much nor do I care about my sleeping habits. Plus, I'm really great at being a procrastinator. SO it's like "Oh? 1am? Hmm, I'll wake up at 4:30am and do my homework. 2.5 hours is enough!" And I can gauge how long it'll take me so I'll literally wait to the last minute - even lunch. It always manages to get down though and I get just as good marks.

I just don't care and I still manage to do well in class. I'm just numb. It might have something to do with being absolutely sick with high-school too. =/

Precursor to Senioritis? (-__-)zZ I've been like this since junior year. In my first two years, I slept at 10:30ish.

I know what u mean, i have ap calc right before lunch and it basically rips me apart everytime no matter how hard i study
