How do you hear from your children at boarding school?

We communicate via cell phone and text. Very rarely by e-mail these days

Our son text messages and emails me frequently, often sending shopping ads (our common bond)----and calls my husband 4 times a week to discuss games and further male bonding.....he is very happy and busy but looking forward to coming home for the holidays.

Now, I'm not actually a mother or at boarding school right now (I'm applying), but when I go, my parents and I are planning to use Skype, which frankly, is awesome. I'm actually surprised no one has mentioned it yet. It's basically, a free program in which you can talk face-to-face on the computer. Of course, you'd both need some sort of web cam or something, and both have the program installed. And for Skype to work, both of you would have to be online at the same time - but I'm sure its easy to work out some sort of mutual arrangements.

I'd imagine using Skype would be a WAY improvement over just talking and to actually be able to see your kid talk to you. Plus, its free to download and use. I just think its amazing. More info at:

Recently, they've really fixed up a lot of the glitches with Skype, though it does lag sometimes. Def. need a decent web cam
