How do you interpret this statement?

At my school, we have shared rank. There are about 20 or so others who have rank 1 (they base this off the amount of 4.0 students; they don't even have to be full IB), but I was trying to tell my counselor that even though rank is shared, if it weren't shared, my classes and percentages would put me at the top because I've always been the top student in my classes (full-IB courseload). I estimated the average percentage to be 97% or so out of 100% (I derived this estimation from every single class I've ever taken), but my counselor said this:

"Although others share his rank, his record shows a 97% achievement"

How do you interpret this?
