How do you keep motivated to work really hard?

Anyone? I struggle with motivation as I am often quite lazy and hence do not fulfill my full potential towards my homework and classwork.

Thanks.

Think about the person you hate most in the world and want to acheive more than them. Whether its in sports, school, or whatever, just visualize your success and their failure. That always keeps me motivated (j/k):)

No, really all you have to do is look at your report card........haha

Working "really hard" is for the weak.

The key is knowing how to not work hard at all and still make everyone think you're super-conscientious. ;)

Amen leah377.

i second leah.

XeLnAg_A, I think you mean you third leah. XD

Would you prodigies kindly be more mindful of and considerate towards us lumbering simpletons? Not all of us are so endowed with innate prowess in regard to academics.

Well, when you are doing something, you always want to put your full potential into it.

And also, think about the fact that you may never have the opportunity again. For example last year, I studied really hard for the National Spanish Exam and got 1st in my state. But I heard the department talking about how my school may not do it next year because many students performed really crappily. So thinking about this I'm glad I studied hard and used the opportunity well.

I fourth Leah :)

I fifth him/her

I'm pretty sure that Leah is a girls name...

Well it's a sixth from me!

Unless he/she made iit for fun. You don't. You let everything come at you. Try to do smart actions.

How I stay motivated is that I keep a framed picture me and my bf on my desk and thing of how awesome transfering to another college is going to be. And I keep pictures of NYC (for NYU) right in front of me on a part of my cubicle's walls at work. That gets me working hard. =]

The key is to make sure to do enough to meet the objectives set for the class but not waste time doing too much more than that. In the long term you won't get much return from working like a dog on school work. Do enough to graduate and get into a decent college (no need for a top 50 school) and then graduate with decent grades from college. Inteview really well and get a good job where you enjoy your work and have fun with the rest of your life. I work really hard when I have to to meet a goal, but do the minimum to get by on other stuff that isn't really important to the big picture. The key is to figure out as early as you can what it is that is important. Too many kids think getting 4.0 is the most improtant thing in life. It isn't. Having a rounded life and figuring out what you really enjoy doing is most important. If you do that you will enjoy being an adult, if not you will end up stuck in a job you don't really like because it gives you 'prestige'.
Sorry for the rant, but I see too many kids on this forum who think that grades are their goal in life. I remember seeing a kid who got his first 'C' on a midterm kill himself by jumping off a building and landing in front of me. That was when I realized that grades are no big thing in life.

Packers1, deepest respect.

Usually, I just make doing work as fun as possible. That way I never get bored. Like, for example, I'll invite a friend over to help me study .. or I'll study with some of my favorite candy/snack. It just makes it much more enjoyable.

I'm a she..okay, so I'll admit it's not an uber-creative username..:)

Use music, it makes it makes it go by much, much faster. Get a 4.0, but don't memorize your textbooks. Grades aren't that hard, learning's somewhat harder.

You don't really get motivated. If you ever try to pump yourself up for a project or assignment or study session, that will last about 30 seconds and then you'll have so much energy you'll be extremely bored. I mean, no one gets excited about **** they find boring. The trick is to just immediately get on the important stuff when you can, before you talk yourself out of it. Also, don't work near a phone or the TV. Dont think about IMing or seeing what so-and so's up to. Those distractions while siphon all of your time.

Just sit in a room that's so boring and quiet that the most interesting thing is the assignment. (dont do this at 10pm lol for obvious reasons) Start early, do 1-2 hours worth, take 10min break, jump back on the horse, repeat.

At night, drink caffiene, do 10 sec of excercise, maybe put soft TV on so you dont just completely go into coma. Or just hit the hay early and set your alarm to finish ur crap when ur sane / energized. Motivated? No such thing lol.
How to CARE?? well thats the mystery.

I've always done what I had to do and if I'm gonna put time into something, might as well make it worthwhile. I dunno, I just know I'll regret not doing the work later. I suppose karate helps with keeping me disciplined. Going to a karate class and feeling the energy of the class is enough for me to motivate me to do all I need to.
