How do you know if certain community college courses are able to be transferred?

Next summer, I am planning to get rid of my GE's by taking them at a community college, either Goldenwest College, Coastline, or Orange Coast. I am a Biological Sciences major.

Is there any advantages / disadvantages in doing so besides just getting it out of the way?

Is this even possible? Do I have to take courses at UCI instead? If I do take it at UCI, how am I supposed to pay for it? Is there financial aid? Or out of the pocket? I remember it was like 4,000 over the summer.

I’d recommend that you get an appointment with a counselor, but the main website to look this info up is [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org)

At uci it’s about $1000 a class.

At OCC it’s under $100 and the quality of education is arguably higher as the professors there care more about teaching than research.

Summer classes are expensive in the Summer 2012 the cost was $271 per unit (for a current student - otherwise it was more). So a typical 4 unit course would cost you $1084.

During a regular quarter there is a flat fee no matter how many units you take - up to the maximum allowed.
