How do you know if you are selected for verification? fafsa

I just got my SAR back on my fafsa. I don't remember what it said last time when I was selected for verification. Does it just say we were selected? Thanks

I think there is an asterisk next to your efc and it says you have been selected for verification.

Or so I have been told, I have not been selected so don't have first hand knowledge

If there is an * by your EFC you are selected for verification. Your school should contact you. According to one of our resident CC FAOs you should not send anything unless requested. But you can always have it done and ready to go whenif the request arrives.

ok then I did not get picked for that this time around. Which is kind of a shock because my EFC dropped this time around.

what do i do if i have been selected for verification?

For me I had to take tax return, driver license, and proof of the state I lived in.

We have always had to complete a form provided by the school, listing everyone included as 'number in household' on FAFSA and also listing the colleges of anyone included as household members in college on FAFSA. We also had to provide signed copies of tax returns (student and parent), copies of W2s (student and parent) and copies of 1099s showing untaxed SS income (H is retired).

The school will tell you what they want.

Even if there is no * next to the EFC, you may still be selected for verification. The * only means that you were pulled by the Department of Educationas part of theiri 1/3 verification process. Schools have other options available. Some verify 100% of all applicants. Even if the school doesn't verify 100% of their applicants, they still have to review 100% of the FAFSA's to look for conflicting information. Conflicts may not be obvious to the student or parent, as many times a conflict occurs because the figures sunmitted just don't match the norm.
