I don't think the OP was trying to impress anyone with his grammar and spelling....he just had a question.....

JessR687: Well, if he is condescending himself, why add to it? 'Tis a question is all.

Good use of 'tis.

legendofmax: if you recall the last part of my original post, i said "apologies...i'm feeling elitest and stuck-up tonight."

that statement was entirely true. had i been the op and had someone said the same thing to me, i would have been angry too.

i was only explaning my reasoning in the second post.

anyway, since i'm apologizing, this thread is officially pointless.

EEK. I hope this post isn't representative of Penn students. And I'm not referrring to the original poster. :-

wow guys lay off of him, its a damn internet message board, it really does NOT matter how u type ur message as long as u get ur point through

Grammar doesn't really matter on a message board, and some people here were unnecessarily mean, but seriously, using middle school MSN language on the CC forums is just asking to be made fun of...

If critical, pedantic losers like you will be attending UPenn next year, I do not wish to go there anymore.

u guys are too off-topic now.//

to the person who critiqued the OP first...you are an idiot...to the people who tried to burn him after the original burn...but probaly wouldnt have if it wasnt for the original...your even bigger idiots...and i am well away that i have not used any correct punctuation in this post nor capitalized anything...i am also aware that "your" in the context i used it should be "you're" and i dont give a crap...and i am going to Penn.

now to the OP.. I'd relax if I were you...your going crazy over the improbable...your stuff will most likely get there, and if it didnt then the postcard will most likely get to you...but i agree with whoever said it...if you dont have any confirmation a couple weeks after everyone else does...just give em a call

absolutely the comments were rude and immature, but be the bigger person and don't stoop to their level by calling them "idiots and bigger idiots". And no the original poster isn't going crazy, if you haven't gotten a postcard from them less than a month before admissions comes out, he/she has a right to go crazy. and sneaking in "and i am going to Penn" at the end of your mini lecture gives your post an air of self-righteousness borderning on big headedness.

i was only adding that fact in because they were saying that someone who wants to be in an ivy should write correctly...and i dont wanna hear that bigger person crap...they were being idiots and they deserve to be told so...now i dont know what the timing is on postcards for regular decision and if people have gotten them yet because i was early...i assumed since people were saying to relax that postcards werent an issue yet...it didn't even process in my head that admissions go out in like a month...wow...good lucky guys

I am not an idiot for making fun of the OP. Did I know what he said the way he wrote it? I probably did. I forget. It's people who write like him/her that frighten me. For me, it was not just about his improper use of the English language, it was mainly about his LAZINESS.

I'll agree with all of you whom say that the message boards are very informal and that the use of language can stray from its proper use. However, what really ****ed me off was his LAZINESS. It doesn't hurt or take a lot of time to type a few more letters.

I'm sure the OP learned his lesson, because he hasn't replied since his initial post.

I apologize for hurting your (OP) feelings and the feelings of all those who sympathize with you.

that would be good luck...i would not like you to have good lucky

Well, what goes around comes around, so if the OP uses MSN Language on his midterm essay at Penn, well, hes going to be the one penalized for it.

oh who cares if someone doesnt bother adding in punc. and absolutely flawless spelling when its not of concern...or at least i thought it wasnt of concern...now i agree that you better be switchin to normal when you're writing your paper...but spell check and auto-correct fixes most of that crap anyways...and i dont think its such a matter of laziness...but some people when they type online just automatically switch to the simpler format...its like when automatically switch to russian when i talk to my grandparents...i dont even think about it

Wow.

1) iwantivy: Should get a postcard. If you don't, wait a bit and then call.

2) I completely agree with hottrack and ThePolishDude. CHILDISH AND PEDANTIC. If the people at Penn are like the jerks making fun of online jargon (which, if I may point out, we are online) I will gladly transfer to somewhere where the students aren't 100% a waste of my time.

3) JessR687: "framing it perfectly". It might just be me, but the period goes inside the quotation. Also, in post #24, you used the word (or what you may think is a word) "explaning." Now, I could be completely civil and understand that you meant to write "explaIning." However, I'm going to just point it out and remind you that if you're going to Penn, you should use English. Why would you want to purposefully humiliate yourself like that?

And who the hell are you telling people how they should speak if they want to go to Penn? Get a life. I hope you fail out of school.

4) Lucky98: You're just one of those people who can't simply admit that he or she is wrong. You just change your reasoning. Well prepare to be wrong because in post #33, you said, "I'm sure the OP learned his lesson, because he hasn't replied since his initial post."

REFER TO POST #5. You must have been too lazy to read through the forum...

Which lesson are we talking about exactly? Never to come to collegeconfidential for help because the majority of people on here are only here to torture you? That's probably the lesson you were talking about, right? This forum is to help people, not to ridicule them.

All in all, I just don't see why you guys would want to condescend yourselves on a public forum like this.

-AJ

P.S. Don't even think about bashing my grammar or spelling because, basically, there would be no point. Penn has read my essays, accepted me, and I have paid my matriculation fee to reserve my place in the class of 2010.

Wow, this thread has gone more off-topic than any other thread even without my or 26e's involvment...you all should have ashamed of yourselves

Oh, and today's word of the day is pedantic...you must use it in all your post from now until Sunday

I don't like your pedantic enforcing of the word pedantic.

to aj and the everyone else who has been attacking me on here:

1) if you noticed, i was neither the first person to criticize the op for his writing, nor the last.

2) in case you missed it, i apologized in my third post. i recognize that i was out of line and i'm sorry. i was in a mood that day and i took it out on an innocent person. sorry.

3) (specifically to aj) if you dislike the rude and condescending tone on here, please don't perpetuate it by passive-aggressive sarcasm and the wishing of bad things in my future. i apologized, so let's just drop it.

4) i'm not a bad person. i was in a bad mood and made a mistake that led to a horrible first impression. i'm sorry to the op and everyone else that may have been offended.
