Agreed… They need to do what they love and be who they are… and everything will fall into place. It never occurred to me to package my kids… It seems very unnatural. I like what rickle wrote.
I third what @rickle1 writes about “genuine” packaging versus using a “veneer.”
Frankly, my kid wasn’t too crazy about his HS like many kids, so we found some outside HS ECs that got him excited about things.
There is a fine line between “genuine” and “veneer” ECs and how to package yourself. Most of the kids I know that got into many colleges of their choice not only had the grades/test scores BUT also had the compelling “resume” to tell and show the story of why the college(s) should accept them. Packaging does work and I’m not sure all AOs can spot the difference, especially when they only have 10-15 mins to decide on an applicant.
