How do you properly Withdraw?

I am in a very tense situation right now. I got accepted to my back-up school in early March and I sent in my deposit around mid-April. The deposit deadline was May 1st which was the date I found out for one of my other schools (I got Wait listed), and I don't find out from my primary (TOP CHOICE) school till June 1st. This back-up school also gave me financial aid and I have to return my acceptance of this aid by the 27th of May, BUT I STILL DID NOT FIND OUT FROM MY PRIMARY SCHOOL. So, My main question:

1:Is it even possible to withdraw financial aid after it is accepted? If so, what is the most polite way of not Only withdrawing financial aid, but the school in general? I will have to do this if I get into my top choice school.

Thank You!

Have you tried contacting your "top choice" school, explaining the situation to them, and getting a decision earlier than June 1?

They won't be happy if you withdraw, but I would accept the award anyways. I don't believe any college decision is binding, even financial aid. If you signed anything that was then you'd know. Look through documents for financial aid before hand, but you should be okay to quietly withdraw. I hardly think the money will go to waste.
