How do you purchase the books?????

How do you buy the books at the duke online bookstore after it determines what books you need? Is there a button somewhere?

It doesn't seem like you can do the online purchase thing like in years past. I would just wait until you get to campus and they will have them all at the bookstore...that's always been easiest for me.

Of course, you do have time to buy them online for (generally) cheaper!

when you buy them at the bookstore, is there generally a long line for a bunch of people getting their books? do they usually have all the books you need (especially for big lecture classes)?

Hmmm, in the years past, you could order books by phone or online and pick them up at the customer service desk in the bookstore all prepackaged and bagged and everything with no lines and no hassle. The phone way might still work this year if the online way doesn't.

what's the number?

It depends what time you go...sometimes there is a long line but it generally moves fast. It's not something I'd get worked up over.

For me, I've never found that they bookstore didn't have something I need. They generally stockpile books for the large lectures so there's more than enough for everyone.

Don't go to the general online bookstore site; that one won't work because upperclassmen can't buy their books online yet. You need to use the special link for incoming freshmen listed in the Bluebook.

You select whether you want new or used books and whether you want only required books or required and recommended books, enter your credit card number, and then just click the button. You don't even need to enter the classes you're registed for; the bookstore retrieves that information from the University's database and pulls all the books you need. You'll then get a follow-up email telling you that you can pick up your books at Lilly Library during freshman orientation. Good luck!

When does the general online bookstore open?

I'm planning to purchase only few of my books through the Duke store.
(such as Spanish books that aren't sold by either Amazon or B&N)
I'm not using Freshman Book Reserving b/c I'm not buying all my books
through Duke.

Wednesday, August 8, beginning at 9 am.

By the way, I just noticed that the freshman deadline for ordering books online expired this morning, August 6. Freshmen can still use the regular link beginning Wednesday, but they'll have to go to the Bryan Center to pick their books up.

If you use the "regular link" does that mean we can choose to buy books that we want? In other words, unlike Freshman Reserve, we don't have to buy all the required books through Duke?

I don't know. We used the freshman link.

Is there a way to pre-order only one textbook for one class? I bought most of my textbooks online already so I don't need the Blue Devil Delivery Service. Is my only choice to walk into a bookstore during orientation week and order the textbook in person?

Online, the bookstore said to contact them for ordering information. In the past years this has been one of the ways to do it. Their phone number is (919) 684-6793 just ask about the specific books you want.
