<p>So in telling people the good news of my acceptance to UPenn, there is of course the classic UPenn vs. Penn State mix-up. "Congratulations on getting into to Penn State!" - how do you react? I mean, I know it is somewhat pretentious to say "Well actually UPenn is an Ivy League school which is far more selective/reputable." But I feel that it trivializes all of my hard work to not address the mix-up because I certainly worked very hard to get into Penn, and people merely thinking I am going to Penn State (caveat: I'm sure Penn State is a lovely school). How do current Penn students react to such comments?</p>
<p>You could just say “I’m actually going to UPenn (different school)”</p>
<p>It’s not that big of a deal that you need to worry so much about it, seriously…? Just be happy you’re in UPenn, does it really matter if some random person is confused?</p>
<p>I just say “No, I’m actually going to the University of Pennsylvania” whenever people get confused. I don’t really get worked up about it. Way I see it, you’re just going to have to live with the confusion…xD</p>
<p>Yeah, I totally started getting that. Just remember that it only matters that you (and your future employers/graduate school) know that Penn = University of Pennsylvania :)</p>
<p>Simple. You ignore the clueless. Where it really matters (employers, etc) people will know.</p>
<p>I see that you got accepted to wharton. Just say you got into Wharton. “wharton state?” jk</p>
<p>Yeah I think I’ve just come to the conclusion that those that don’t know the difference really don’t matter all that much and will certainly not be my future employer so I can let them stay confused. Case closed.</p>

<p>You know sometimes I find it more pretentious to say “I got into Wharton” because it feels like I’m distancing myself from Penn, putting wharton on a higher pedestal, you know?
I want people to know I got into Wharton but I just feel weird saying Wharton first and not Penn</p>
<p>It’s funny b/c a lot of the older guys at the biology institute that I research at were like: “Wait, you’re going to do business?” when they heard I got into Penn. And I’m just like…nope! Biology! Why else would I be here? xD</p>
