how do you receive packages?

how do you receive packages? is their a mail room in each dorm where they hold them? or do you have to pick-them up in a central location?

i am shipping my imac and won't be able to do the big red shipping b/c i need it after the 10th, but im nervous if i ship i will have to lug it from let's say north campus to my dorm in west campus (becker).

Most dorms in West have their own mail rooms. So, don’t need to worry. And I think the big red shipping is going to deliver your stuff to your room.

so all my mail, including large packages, just get delivered to the mail room at my dorm, right?

Is it common for people to lose their mail or packages? Also, what kind of locks are used on the dorm doors (in general if possible)?

i’ve heard of people losing their letters shipped to them and stuff they’ve mailed out…but packages not so much.

dorm doors come with a standard key door lock.

most of the new houses on west have their own mail room. places on north campus use RPCC or APPEL.

If you mail them using the Big Red Shipping program, then they would deliver it to your room in the beginning of the year.

If you are talking about regular days, then everything will be to your mail room, and you’ll get a notification about a package arrived.

Not very common, at least I don’t hear it that often.

D lived on North CAmpus last year. Right around her birthday, the mailroom lost a card with cash from her aunt and package with a gift from her boyfriend. UGH!

Hyperlite-- if you are on west, you will get a slip of paper in your mailbox (which is on the ground floor of becker) that you take to whoever is running the mail desk; they have you sign and you get your package.

I’ve never heard of anyone getting their mail lost, but thats why it doesnt hurt to get a tracking number…I’m sure it happens just as often as it does with regular mail.

Do you guys think it would be safe to send a laptop to Cornell? Im currently buying a new one and I dont think that it will reach me in time before I leave for orientation.

i wouldnt risk a laptop during peak mailing the first week or two of freshman year…

but of course if it’s damaged DO report it!

I shipped A LOT on my way over since I’m from the west coast. It really shouldnt be a problem; just get it insured and make sure you get the tracking number and whatnot.
