how do you say no?

so if you get accepted and you dont want to go there, what should you exactly do?

send an email, or letter? or do you even have to do anything

You don’t have to do anything. But to be nice (so schools can get their waitlisted students spots if they have) I would send an email. But I’m not sure, so hopefully someone else will respond :P

Dear Admissions Office,

I must decline your generous offer of admission to College X, as I have decided to attend a different college/university.

Sincerely,

I would encourage you to write a polite email to decline as soon as possible, so they could offer the spot to someone else. In doing so, it would also leave a good impression with the school. They may keep your file open for a year or two in case if you should decide to transfer at some point.

Many acceptance packages also include a reply card. Check off the “no thanks” box and drop it in the mail.

It would be gracious to thank the admissions committee for their consideration and, if you have visited the school, for their hospitality. Politeness also requires an expression of regret in having to decline their generous offer of admission. There are books in the public library that offer form letters, including those for declining offers by a school or employer.

thanks for the responses
