How do you sign up for 19 credits?

Since the scholarship now covers up to 20 credits a semester, how do you get approval for those extra credits? From your dept? From the registrar? From the dept of the extra class?

maybe kiki can help.

M2CK: My son’s girlfriend wants to sign up for an extra class, which, I believe, gives her 20 hours. She sent an e-mail a few days ago to Carolyn Rogers to ask what she needed to do. I’ll check and see if she got a reply.

Course overloads (over 18 credits in a semester) normally require approval from the dean of the student’s college. To get your scholarship updated to pay for the additional credits, I’ve been told to contact Lisa Hicks lisa.hicks@ua.edu .

Just got this from Carolyn Rogers…

"You will need to speak with your academic advisor and may need an “override” to take more than 18 hours. "

Scholarships pay for up to 20 hours? Does the scholarship amount increase or are the recipients getting those extra hours gratis?

a while back i emailed the director of engineering scholarships said that the scholarships would only apply for 16 credits…it turned out that an overload for an incoming engineering student was >16 credits

well, if that is the case, then 2/3 of the overage should be covered by the university scholarship and you would be responsible for only 1/3 of the overage.

unless i am not thinking correctly.

^that makes sense

The increase to 20 credits for the university scholarship is very recent.

CoE may not even be aware of the change.
