how do YOU study for APES?

I already have the highly recommended books by CC to self study APES: smartypants and REA, but I don't know how to study. I only did one other self study, and that was psych. Since that test was basically memorization, i just read barrons over twice without doing anything else. For anyone who's self studied APES and got a 4 or 5, what did you do?

BTW, I already started taking notes on the first chapter, but I'm an extremely bad notetaker (I basically copy everything down because I don't know what's 'important') and I don't think it's helping me with anything.

get princeton review's how to crack the ap environmental science exam, 2008 edition would be best....i took apes this past school year and had an a the whole year, and got a 4 on the exam. But the catch is that my teacher was easy and gave us a study guide to every test with the exact questions that would be on her tests, and then she would do powerpoints where we would write down the answers on out study guide, so all i had to to was constantly look and memorize from the study guides. I didnt have to read a thing from the textbook. But i have to admit, my teacher did prepare us well for the ap exam......i was familiar with all the information on the exam. But just read and complete the princeton review book, i did that and that really refreshed my memory in the upcoming months before the ap exam........i actually still have all my course materials, except for the textbook, so if you want it....

omg lol ive been writing the same post like all day,
here is my advice:

i KNOW that ppl recommend the princeton review for enviro.
but the absolute best is the McGraw-Hill AP Achiever that not many (or nobody) knows about. i used it for ap world and got a 5 and used it this yr for ap enviro, also getting a 5. i just found out my score.
i never read the Miller textbook. i know it's kinda hard to believe but yes, there are some really bad classes/teachers/schools out there.
i read the review book in 2 weeks. every word of it. and got a 5.

I took a half-year ap course (before they banned those) and got a five. Probably coz our teacher is perhaps the most involved envi sci teacher in the state. awards and recognition and all. but yeah, princeton review was useful too.

Thanks z09. That's just the advice I (even though I'm not the OP, lol) needed. :)

i read APES as apes.. as in like monkeys hahahahahha

It's really not that hard, pm me and I'll send you a past released test.

alright, thanks for your advice everyone :)

The Barron's book does not do a very good job of preparing for the APES exam - I found an error in one of the practice exams and I was, indeed, correct and Barron's and the author of the book admitted this mistake. Otherwise, you should definitely explore the 2008 FRQs on the Barron's website as they were harder than the ones from previous years in my opinion. Our class did not cover everything in APES so I did self-study like...week before the exam which probably cost my that 4 or 5 (still waiting for scores) from this year. The matching in the beginning of the MCs may cost you some points if you don't know the answers.
