How do you think my Georgetown interview went?

So I had my interview earlier this evening, and I thought it went pretty well; we had a great conversation. When I answered the “Why Georgetown” question, he said something like “Wow, that was probably the best answer I’ve ever gotten.” He told me I asked great questions as well, and my resume was impressive. However, the interview was almost exactly 30 min… he kind of seemed to be cutting it short and I wasn’t going to keep asking questions just to extend it. At the end, he told me I made a great impression on him and he even said he’d write up a good report… But then he reminded me how hard it is get accepted and that it really just comes down to my grades and extracurriculars. What do you guys think? I can talk more about my experience as well if you have any questions

Sounds like it went well! Thirty minutes is appropriate, the interviewers are busy. My husband interviews for Dartmouth, and he tired at the end of a long work day. It is hard to get accepted, it is very competitive.

I think that the interviewer was making sure that he wasn’t overstating the impact of the interview on the decision.

^ Ditto #2. They don’t have much impact at all. My son’s interview went on for about an hour but he holds no pretensions about what this means. The alums interview to stay connected to the institution and to help provide a face to the name. BTW, my son brings his resume(s) (he has a music one as well) but tends not to offer them unless asked. He would rather have a conversation than do a job interview LOL. We’ll see how it all works out

Long time ago, my friend’s interview with MIT guy lasted for more than 3 hours, and the only school he got into was MIT. He was rejected from Cornell, the school which accepted me. My friend had perfect GPA, while I had very low 3.0 gpa. For Cornell interview at his home, I hit it off with the interviewer’s wife and must have kissed their baby 10 times. That baby got me into Cornell. Lol

I know someone that was an alumni interviewer for Georgetown for many years. He recently stopped doing it because none of the people he recommended were accepted and he was frustrated by it.

So, I would not put a ton of hope into a good interview. Now, a bad interview, that might be a red flag.

Sounds like it went well, so try to get some satisfaction out of that…you were well prepared and communicated effectively. The 30 minute thing you can’t read into, likely that’s the amount of time your interviewer had scheduled for it. It sounds like he gave you appropriate information about admissions…in the big scope, the interview is kind of minor.

Agree with everyone. My aunt has been interviewing for an ivy league school for 20 years and she said they don’t matter. Her comments were similar to #5 above. My Georgetown interview was very casual and short and I got it early.

My son’s interview was casual and about 25 minutes long. I think its just a satisfactory vs can’t speak - tbh

I have a good friend who used to do alum interviews at GT. Her advice was to be friendly. She said that the interviewers fill out a form and it is pretty basic.

So, why Georgetown?
