how do you think the introduction of the common app will effect this year's results?

i just mentioned this to someone :)

but i wanna see what you guys think. no doubt there will be a bigger applicant pool. but i think that the ED pool will stay more or less the same, it's the RD pool that will really increase in size.

and then of course there's the competition. do you think columbia will be more cut throat or a little more lenient this year? maybe the acceptance rate will jump up to 11%, seeing as how last year's went down to a depressing 9% O_O

You’d be naive to think that the acceptance rate would increase.

Switching to CommonApp = convenience = people who apply just because they can and it’s easy to = larger applicant pool (but same amount of spots) = lower acceptance rate.

yeah, i’d have to agree with that. but who knows, maybe the large applicant pool will work in our favor somehow.

The admissions rate has decreased every year for the past 10 years or so, at almost every top school. It will surely go down this year. And the fact that Columbia’s switching to the Common App means that the RD (and consequently overall) admissions rate will drop faster than it otherwise would. ED probably won’t be affected that much by the switch, since it’s still binding.
