I got the AMSCO book recently, and unfortunately, I don't think I can start studying until the Easter break is over (I know it sounds stupid, but I have school hw--alot--and SAT2chem and AP Physics final that I have to study for) :(

How do you use this book though?
Do you guys just read and highlight, or do you guys take notes as you read?

I was considering two options....
1) read and highlight AMSCO, which I can do it in a fast pace, then I'll have time to read it one more time before the exam, And also study the Crash Course.
2) read and highlight and throughly take notes as I read, which can help me memorize but I won't be able to read it again. and study the Crash Course.

I don't know which one would be more efficient.
I want to get a 5 on this test, but my school absolutely does not prepare for us for the actual test.....

Oh, and is it necessary to do alot of practice MC and essay questions???
Which books are good if I want to do that?

Thanks guys! :)

In my APUSH class, the only homework we had was taking notes of our textbook. And let me tell you, my teacher can’t teach and notes have been a lifesaver. Psychologically, information can be memorized and retained easier by writing rather than rereading. So go with 2.

I’m doing #2, but I’m going to read it over again, too. I spend 1-2 hours on each chapter depending on the length of the chapter. How do you hilight? I need to be more efficient, lol.

Do some practice tests. They give you a good idea of what to study for. And I’m scared to death about the essays. What if we get a prompt about a topic we know nothing about? D:

Remember
25%-- Pre-Columbian to 1789
45%-- 1790-1914
35%–1915 to present

And flash-cards are amazing as well. Timelines seem like they would be helpful, too.

thanks guys, so i guess i should make notes
Seems like everyone is almost half done through AMSCO
I’m only done with 2 chapters
Any other suggestions that would help me alot if I’m this behind?

I am just reading Amsco. HAHAH seriously… I am just going to read it and go over some chapters when I am done if I feel that they are iffy. Also, I’m doing the SAT II US History tests on Sparknotes at the same time to prep for that test in June. YAY
