how do you use the word "whereby"

This is a question on the CB book page 660

Though BEST KNOWN as a jazz vocalist, he ALSO ENJOYED gospel music, WHEREBY he told his manager that he wanted to make a RECORDING OF his favorite gospel songs. NO ERROR

I had a feeling the answer was "whereby", but I don't know why. What is the correct way to use that word? Thanks

<a href="http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=whereby%5B/url%5D%5B/color%5D">http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=whereby</a></p>

“Whereby” is a conjunction, which links two sentences; however, the sentence started with “though” is a subordinate clause, so the word “whereby” should be eliminated.
