It seems that here in Colorado, CSM (Colorado School of Mines) is a "very nice school" or "you must be smart" school. How do you all view it (from people around the nation, or world)? I have always been curious about this. Any reply is greatly appreciated, thanks,
Patrick

I hadnt heard of it before I cam to this board.(doesnt mean it isnt good or anything :P)

It is a very reputable engineering school, and I think anyone in the engineering field in the USA has heard of it.

any abet accredited school will be fine. some are better than others, but truly there is a standard that abet keeps. there are no engineering schools which suck like other majors.

PatrickK-- this is very dated, but I believe still a valid perspective. As an undergrad geologist 3 decades ago, CSM was viewed as the holy grail for rock-heads looking for the "real" geology graduate experience. Since those days, I was involved in sponsoring some research for several years in the mid-90's in CSM Env Engineering, concurrent with some research at MIT, JHU & CMU and others. CSM, although relatively small, held its own in technical prowess & I believe remains today a very respectable school.....also, its in a wonderful spot, and the ambiance of Golden, Co is great in my book.

As I mentioned on another thread recently about CSM, my daughter's favorite t-shirt is from CSM, adorned with Blaster, the dynamite-packing jackass, as the school's mascot. If I had to do it all over again, CSM would be very high on my list.

Heck, even certain non-ABET accredite programs are more than fine. The MIT, Stanford, and Berkeley Bioengineering programs, for example, are unaccredited. Yet I doubt that anybody would seriously believe that any of them are no good.

Thanks for the replies.
