When school starts do your grades start off low and then skyrocket or do they start high and stay high consistently. I'm extremelly bummed out because I had a 100 in my precalculus class but after the second test it dropped to a 91. I feel like a failure and that I can never compete with the people in front of me class rank wise. I might be overexaggerating but I just reassurance and comfort...

bump

If you’re getting 90s in math, you’re probably fine already. But from my experience, I do well on my first tests in class, because it is normally review, and then for the next test or two, I don’t do as well until I get into the course more and then I see my grade start to rise back up.

Mine started high and stayed high, but my high school was not rigorous at all. Your B+ is okay. Raising it back up to an A is very doable with some work, and even if you do finish with a B here and there, that’s still above average. Keep up the good work.

It depends on the class for me. In AP Human Geo, I’m getting a B-, and in Algebra 2, a B. But that’s because I’ve only had 1 test in those subjects. In every other class, I have a 100, even classes with tests. Don’t worry, you have the rest of the semester to get your 91 up! Really, you have about 18 weeks, I’m sure you can do it. Oh, and to the person above me, at most schools a 91 is an A-. Math is math, it’s easy to make mistakes. Just try checking every problem right when you finish it; just plugging the answer back into the equation is better than nothing. Just try not to look over your previous work, because if you didn’t notice your mistake the first time, there’s a good chance you won’t notice it the second. And even if you do get a B in the class, it’s not the end of the world
I looked at the statistics for students admitted to Harvard some time ago, and I believe only half of them had the coveted 4.0. (Don’t quote me on that though, I’m not completely sure.) Don’t feel like a failure though, I’m sure there are students in your class who wish they had your 91 :)

I usually have high grades consistently, but it depends on the class. On classes I find easy, like English or Math, I slack off a little bit in the second semester and get a couple percentage points lower. But for classes like science, I try to work harder and end up getting a better grade
But please don’t be sad at a 91! That’s still an A, isn’t it? A 91 is a super good grade for someone taking Pre-Calc, most of the people in my school who take it don’t get a grade like that. It’s still the beginning of the year, there’s still plenty of time to bring up your average, and even though it won’t be a perfect 100 (which seems pretty impossible to get tbh), I’m sure it will be very close. And please don’t feel like a failure! If you stay positive and continue working hard, it will reflect in your grade.

usually all but two of my classes are solid A’s, then one of the other two goes up to an A mid year, then the other goes up to an A last minute :)

For anything science and history related I usually have a 99 the whole semester/year. English is usually 93, and Math is 96…but it doesn’t matter!
My state does things a little differently. 93-100 are A’s!

@tacoperson123 I believe a 93-100 is an A in most states :)

90-92 is an A- in my school.

LOL i have a D in english and C in apush.
i have a 4.0 UW GPA so i have to raise em T_T

Picture a valley. Grades start off as A’s in first quarter. then some dip second quarter, and the semester exam saves my grades back to an A. Second Semester is more of a steady climb upwards. They start low-ish (especially since I am usually at a debate conference during the first weeks of that quarter) and then rise to A’s at the end of the year. I can’t tell you how many times my semester exam score has raised my grade to the 90.1-91.0 range.

@DatOneKorean And I was mad because I had a B- in AP Human Geo and a B in Algebra.
Thank you for being honest and raising our spirits :D

To the OP, when there are a lot more grades in the system, I’m sure it’ll all even out and you’ll end up with an A. I’m sure you can get your 91 up to an A by the end of even the quarter :)

I usually start off in the high 90s and stay consistent throught the year. Last year, I started off with a B- average and worked up to an A+ by mid-year. Usually at the end of the year my grades drop because I get early cases of the infamous “Senioritis”.
