Hey CC,
I’m currently a high school senior and I’ll be attending my local community college next fall. I was wondering if my planned schedule looked doable. That is, I’d rather not die, get As,and still have a little time to pursue my hobbies and keep a part-time job.
Freshman Composition
Intermediate Calculus (Calc III)
General Chemistry B
Physics (for Scientists/Engineers) I
Physics and chem will most likely be on the same day, and physics with be a calc-based course.
This would be a challenging schedule for most students. It really depends on how challenging math and science are for you. If these courses are of good quality, you are strong in math and science, and you keep up, it’s doable.
I’m guessing you’re hoping to meet transfer requirements for engineering and already have dual enrollment credits so you already know how college works.
Did you skip thanks to AP ? If so, ask for a retired final for the class your skipped and see if you can get 85% on it.
It also depends whether your college is on a semester, quarter, or trimester system.
What’s your credit total?
@MYOS1634 Yes, after this spring, I’ll have a total of 12 completed units (1 four unit class every semester for the past three semesters), thanks to dual-enrollment. I’ve never taken AP classes at my HS before.
My college is on the semester system. The classes that I have listed in the OP amount to 16 units.
It’s going to be tough so it may be better to take Physics I or General Chemistry B in the Spring, and rreplace them with an easier, 3-credit course. However if you feel comfortable with Chemistry A and Calculus 1&2 you would be ok I think, keeping in mind it’d be very rigorous and you’d need to be focused right away.
Thanks for the advice! I guess it’ll be fine if I give up the idea of keeping a part-time job, maybe.
Can you work just Friday and Saturday to try it? If you like babysitting and can find a steady job my daughter found she made more money babysitting then she would have working a traditional part time job with the same amount of hours since no taxes were taken out and she got paid more.
That’s a good idea @momtogirls2, thanks I’ll definitely look to see if someone needs a babysitter, driver, or tutor around my neighborhood!
