How would two 4s and a 5 look on a college application?

4s on Physics B and English Lang
5 on Calc AB

AP exams aren’t really meant to be used as tools for measuring achievement, so colleges usually don’t look too deeply into AP scores. A 5 is obviously better, but a 4 isn’t really going to hurt you very much.

Perfectly fine.

But is the difference between a 4 and a 5 large in terms of HYPSM applications? D:

Large? Most likely not.
Are they considered? Most likely, though minimally.

You will probably NOT get rejected simply because you got a 4.

The scores are used more as a measure for giving college credit, so a 4 is not going to get you rejected from a college.

I just looked it up, actually. A 4 will actually give you acceleration credit for certain classes at Yale.

Look at it this way: your AP scores are self-reported on college applications. The fact that even HYPSM are going off of self-reported AP scores underscores the fact that they’re not considered very heavily in the admissions process.

So, a 4 versus a 5 will have minimal effect (if any).
