How does a "C" in the first quarter affect ED decisions?

I've been a straight-A's-with-occasional-B+'s student all through high school. This year, I have all A's in all but one class, including AP Psych (A+), Calc AB (A+), and Lit (A-). I think I'm going to get a C in AP Physics C- this class is killing me. Our class average is a C (keep in mind that only 10 of the brightest kids in my grade are in it, and that only around 12,000 students in the entire country take the exam.) The fact that my school doesn't offer AP Physics B didn't help, either. I'm kind of freaking out about this- will admissions officers at my ED school think that I'm slacking/have senioritis? I'm actually working even harder in Physics than I have in any other class, but I just can't get my grade up :(. Any opinions?

i don't think early decisions get to see the grades you get the first quarter of ur senior year, just regular decision gets to see ur midyear report...atleast i think this is right, correct me if i'm wrong. i'm pretty sure they only see the last grades from your junior year.

Unfortunately, I'm prettu sure that my ED school (Duke) will see my grades, bc I had to give a first-quarter grade report to my GC to fill out and send to the school.

they call the school and ask anyway

My school sent out my transcript and it has my work in progress and grades as well.

bump (ugh, sorry)...127 views and still no answers?

really??????????

Many schools do see the first quarter senior grades of students that are applying ED or will request them if they are on the fence as to where the student is at the end of junior year.

Yeah, I'm almost positive that they'll see them. Any thoughts on what the effects will be?

assuming the adcom for your school knows your school well, they should know that very few students take AP Physics C

i don't think they'll see you as having senioritis, though perhaps they might doubt your ability to handle really rigorous courses since there will probably be thousands of other applicants with Bs or As in that same class.....idk, i've heard that college adcoms cut people with bad grades in Calc BC (down to Cs) some slack, don't know if that would apply for physics....

jw, do you go to a private or public school? if public, magnet or normal public?

Public, normal...but it's one of the best in the area

You can have your GC send a letter to the college, letting them know what the grades in that class are. However, you are being compared to students who do not have any "C's", or "B's" for that matter. If it is a competitive college where the adcoms look for ways to eliminate prospecs, any unfavorable info can make the difference, depending on the stats of the applicant pool that year. If it is a school that is not so competitive, that "C" may make no difference.

Well it's Duke, which is quite competitive, but not insanely like HYPSM

1 C isn't going to get your admission rescinded. A couple D's might though.
