Hello, ladies and gents. As a homeschooler who wants to take AP courses, I have a difficult time figuring out how to do it with my work schedule. I’m a dishwasher at a local restaurant, and I go in at 2 PM and usually clock out at 5; this is how it goes from Tuesday through Friday, unless they tell me not to come in on a slow day. It’s not that I don’t have enough free time, as I usually wake up at 5 and therefore have plenty of time to do school, but rather I don’t know how to get access to AP level courses that won’t conflict with my job. While I would love to take them online, I doubt we’ll be able to afford them; some I saw cost $180. Community college isn’t really an option either because most of the classes are in session when I go into work. A third option could be a public school if they just let me come in early and take the classes so I can go to work, but I have no idea if that’s possible. Anyways, any advice would be much appreciated.
Maybe contact some local public schools… depending on where you live this probably isn’t allowed but if you really, really want to learn I don’t think anybody would care if you just sat in the back?
Don’t know how that sounds but quite a few of the AP courses can be self-learned with enough motivation and resources.
Also, CTY and many other online courses offer financial aid. Try to utilize it.
Have you actually gone to your local county college and met with a counselor and asked if you could take classes with your current work schedule? Most students who are in county college also work so I’m quite certain that they will have some options for you. They can also advice regarding tuition/scholarships.

Why do you want to take AP courses?
If you simply want AP test scores from CollegeBoard, you could self study. Figure out which textbook your public school uses and buy some review books such as Barron’s/PR/etc. Many students have self-studied AP courses that they were unable to take at their school. For example, AP Biology classes most often use Campbell’s and AP US History classes often use American Pageant.
@DragonKittyMeowr, I can most certainly self-study and take the exams. In fact, that’s what I wanted to do. The only reason I was going to try to take the actual classes is just to have a weighted GPA. However, considering I’m planning on going to Christian colleges such as Wheaton and Calvin and not Ivy League schools, AP isn’t “required” to get in.
I just remembered, Florida offers online AP courses to their students for free. Look up FLVS Global if you’re out of state. If you don’t live in Florida, you might have to pay money. I’m not exactly sure how it works, but you might want to look into it, since it is accredited and offered by the state of Florida.
