How does Amherst calculate GPA?

Is it the traditional 4.0 scale? Becuase I was looking through the 07-08 course catalog and it said that grades are on a pt system out of 14 with A+=14, A=13…etc. So are grades reported out of 14? 13? or converted to a 4.0?

"Term averages and cumulative averages are reported on a 14-point scale rounded to the nearer whole number."

Is it really that important?
A good rule of thumb would be to do well enough that you don't have to worry about your GPA :3

well I am just wondering

Grades are reported either as a letter (A, B+, etc.) or converted to a 4.0 scale I believe. It wouldn't be worthwhile to explain the 14 point system every time you give out your GPA.

that's really funny. i've been here a full year, and i had no idea that we had a 14-point gpa system... :)
