How quickly do we think AOs get updates that are sent to them during reading time? If a student updates them, what exactly happens? Are they alerted somehow that one of the apps they are reading has an update? I’m imagining the staff at the admissions office somehow filtering updates to committees but how can one be sure that updates for RD are considered when the process is already in full swing?
How was the update sent to the school? Was it in the midyear report of 7th semester grades?
No it was an update of a new award. He sent it directly to the AO but also copied the general admissions email since that’s the address on the portal to send updates to.
You should assume that there is a procedure in place as AOs have accepted updates for many many admissions cycles. The “how” probably varies by college and is not something that is necessary for you to know. Assuming you sent the update via the method the college requests, Iif you want to know that the update is received, and the portal does not show, feel free to contact the school to verify but trust that it will make its way to the correct person(s). It’s out of your hands.
Yeah @skieurope I know you’re right. I just wonder how many of his schools have already determined his fate. Wondering where schools are in the process with decisions coming in the next three-four weeks. I suppose, if he made it to the point where he’ll be discussed in committee, then something sent today might be in time. And I’ll have to assume that, if he’s already in the no pile, that this update wouldn’t change that.
Again, where they are in the decision process will vary by college; there is no blanket answer. But I doubt any school releasing decisions end of March is finalized.
How much impact an update will have will likely not be a game changer. Certainly, as you said, it will not likely move an application from the no pile to the yes pile.
Does anyone know the process well enough for LACs and may know how close to the decision date the process is final? I’m just curious. He has a few schools who have changed their dates from April 1 to dates in March. If a school says March 20, how much before that are the lists final? Do we think they finalize up until that date?
This is a very hectic time for AO’s, most schools are reviewing files in committee. It is possible that some files are in the final deny or admit category. I asked your question of a friend in admissions at a small LAC and another at a small university, both said depending upon the info of the update they would look at the file to see if it would change the status of a file in the denied pile to a committee review for a second look. It is so subjective depending upon the information and the individual institutions and their timeline. Best of luck!
@ECmotherx2 thanks! I’m not thinking it would change a no to a yes. I just hope it makes it into his file if they discuss him in committee. His portal did update this morning to show that the school received it.
