How does AP credit work?

Hi everyone! I looked up ap credit on Stanford's website and got a minimal understanding of how it functions. Does anyone here have knowledge as to how ap credit works at Stanford? Is it affected in any way by your declared major? Is it really useful or is it just a small boost? Any information would be much appreciated.

You can receive college credit for certain AP courses with certain scores. It is spelled out pretty clearly on their website. Credits are given mostly for Calc, Physics, Chem, and foreign languages. It is not affected by your declared major.

Agree with cba…getting high scores on Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, and Foreign Language (for language credit they accept either high AP scores or SATII scores) is extremely beneficial in getting not only credit but allowing you to take more advanced classes that have “prerequisites requirement” in your freshman year…especially those pursuing engineering, CS, or STEM fields…

…and for those who think they “need” to take AP computer science in high school…it’s really not necessary nor a requirement to become an accomplished CS student…
