How does assigning recommenders work?

If I am applying to let’s say 5 schools, do my recommenders have to submit their recommendations 5 times? Or can they submit onto CommonApp and somehow I can link it into my own app to post their recommendation on each school’s application page? I can’t seem to find any advice on the CommonApp help section. Thanks in advance!

They do not, they only need to complete it once and you can assign to the 5 schools you’re applying to

Thanks @disoriented128. Does that essentially mean that they won’t know what schools I apply to? (<- that would be a relief for me lol)

@ivyleaguefan‌ Unfortunately, they will know what schools we’re applying to (common app sends a notification to their email)

Thanks again @disoriented128‌!! By the notification do you mean they will know after I submit my application to CommonApp (as a confirmation to them that I used their recommendations let’s say)?

I think so! I did this by adding my other email as my recommender and saw how it was done through that
