How does Biology E/M test work?

As said on sparknotes:

"The Biology E and Biology M Tests aren’t completely dissimilar. In fact, out of a total of 80 questions, the two tests share a core of the same 60 questions. The test contains an additional 40 questions, split between the E and M specialty sections. So if you take the Biology E test, you will only have to answer the section of 20 ecology and evolution questions. If you take the Biology M, you need only answer the molecular biology and evolution section."

So I'm given a 60 question test, then choose either 20 E questions or 20 M questions, correct?
Which do you suggest I take for the part where I choose E or M?
Which is more difficult?
Is there any place I can find the average freshman scores (based on schools) for these tests?

Yes, there are 60 questions that you will have to answer regardless of which you choose, and then 20 E or 20 M.

It depends if your biology class focused more on molecular biology or on ecology, or whichever you feel you are better at.

Here are percentiles for the subject tests: <a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools;

I don’t believe there are any average freshman scores for these tests, I might be wrong though.

No offense but I hate these threads; not the asking of how the test works, but what section you should take. There is no “easier” section. What’s easy depends on the individual. Are you more comfortable with questions dealing with the molecular or ecological aspect of biology. Someone could tell you that they thought the E section was really easy, but does that apply to you?

Before you take the test, you have to fill in whether or not you will take the E or M section on the test booklet; this is your final decision. You are not allowed to go back and switch your decision when the test begins.

neekzg got it right.

I agree. No one one these boards will be able to tell you what section is “more difficult”.
