Besides the Academies, because they usually like when people attend it, i am already going, how do most other colleges see it?

They see it as a good leadership role. Not a deciding factor though. It looks slightly better than being president of several clubs.

Really? A one week thing looks better than various club leaderships?

I don’t know, many people at my school actually think that Boys State looks REALLY REALLY good for some reason. I was actually trying to say that it doesn’t look as great as most people think, by saying that it only looks SLIGHTLY better than being president of a club.

I personally was not nominated for it, so whatev. I don’t think its that important.

I guess it depends on the admissions officer’s preconceived notion about what Boys State is. I went and if I had to judge, it definitely isn’t close to being a club president. That’s just me though and who am I to say? My school just lets everybody who wants to go to Boys State go so we end up taking any empty spots from the other schools that our local American Legion chapter sponsors.

My friends who went said that it was really awesome. So idk. I’m hoping it doesn’t look too great, since my main opponent got nominated for it (simply because he was in this teen leadership thing, which he got into simply because he did speech and debate and had connections). Funny how debaters get connections to other humanities/leadership stuff, while other people good at other stuff like math/science do not.

I think the most important thing about Boys State is not going, but what you did there. For example, being Boys (or Girls) State Governor, and then going to Boys/Girls Nation and doing something big there will look impressive.

I am going this year. It looks good, because might percieve an applicant who is politically active as more attarctive, but it nothing truly amazing. Now, going to Boys Nation…Whole other story. I am running for Governor of VA, so I am so nervous. :P

What is boys state?

It looks pretty solid, considering you must be nominated and cannot apply.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about it so…

Hahaha, rmadden15, i’m going to Lynchburg as well. Maybe they should think about a new name?

Yeah I think it looks pretty good, like for a summer thing. especially paired with other leadership roles, i’m sure it’ll look good. does anyone want to give a more detailed rundown on exactly what happens there?

Don’t take Boys State too seriously, just meet people and have a good time. I don’t think colleges even know what the hell half the positions mean.

Sincerely,
Boys’ State Class of 2009, New York
