How does Cal Poly view ACT scores?

Hi everyone, a few questions:

  1. Can someone please confirm that Cal Poly only looks at the math and english sections of the ACT? The answers I have gotten are inconsistent.

  2. When they list the average composite ACT scores for each college, is this the average of all four sections, or do they calculate a new composite using just math and english? For example, the average composite for the College of Architecture is listed at 29, which is my composite for all four, but if they only average math and english, I would be at a 32.

  3. Finally, do they superscore? I have heard that they do for the SAT, but not sure about the ACT.

Thank you so much and best of luck to everyone in the coming months :slight_smile:

Just Math and English and they super super score. That means if your best score in math was on the SAT and best English was on the ACT they’ll use that combination. They use the combination the benefits you the most.

But do they superscore for just ACT?

Out of all the tests you take (SAT or ACT or both), they’ll use the best math and the best English/Critical Reading. So…yes. :smiley:

I have a probably lame question, on ACT is it the English or the Reading score, or both? My daughter’s ACT has English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, Writing.

English

Ok, I was hoping it was the reading as English was her lowest score, lol. Is there a table anywhere that equates the sat sections to the act sections?

@socalmom007 try this link: http://collegeapps.about.com/od/standardizedtests/a/convertSAT2ACT.htm

Thanks so much! I guess we’re lucky they superscore, her SAT English is way higher than her ACT, but math is the opposite.

That chart is slightly different that the one that was in the MCA, but I’m not sure how things have changed with the new SAT.

Will they take best section score from 2 different ACT tests?

SLO superscores, so yes to the above question ^^^.
