IF u get rejected from UT @ austin will they autmatically cap you to like UTSA or something, or do you have to apply there?

I thought they gave the CAP option to all rejected students, but apparently a friend of mine didn't get the offer, so I'm not sure how it works.

But if you do recieve the option, you can choose any of the participating satellite schools, such as UTSA. I don't think you file a seperate app for UTSA, however, I'm sure there is a CAP you'd have to fill out.

"....and earn the right to complete their educational coursework at UT Austin".

Sounds like a reality TV competition series . Let's call it "The CAPpers"

Any idea what % of CAPpers make the 3.2 and get in?

I'm only making this comment because I've been accepted to other schools already, but CAP seems like an unatractive way to spend the first year or two of my college experience-going to a school with a goal of intending to transfer out.

Apparently, from what I've read on-line (always a reliable source), it's not that hard to make the cut-off GPA. If you're interested in doing it, you could always contact the school and ask them.

But you're right, it's certainly unattractive, and somewhat of a risk as well.

well what i do know is that everyone who comlpletes there application on time meaning before feb 1st, lives in TEXAS, and gets rejected to summer or fall admission can be offered CAP, soo i dont know how one of the users friend didnt get offered it , unless they didnt live in Texas or did not turn in the application on time, other than that i dont know what other reason it could be, and if your looking for proff just email or call up one of the UT advisiors. And i just sent my application in today soo i also called and made sure if i would get offered CAP soo if you live in texas, comleted your application on time, and get rejected then the minimum you would get offered is CAP, and you spend one yr at one of the UT system schools, get a 3.2 and you will be automatically garnetteed to UT-austin your sophmore yr.

I'd like to say from personal experience that I would STRONGLY discourage any of you from going this route. Last year i got accepted to texas A&M and CAPed at texas, and was really upset. I decided to do CAP. I sent my deposit in asap and signed up for the good on campus dorm at UTSA.

UTSA established no correspondence with me, whatsoever. Wondering why my housing contract and other assorted info hadnt come yet, after much fighting and being put on hold, I got to talk to a real person, who assured me it'd all be coming in the mail soon. Then in late June I got an amil saying my housing contract hadnt been completed on time, and all on campus dorms were full. I was livid, and when i called back, they admitted they never mailed it, but that it had been sent in an email (which, too was bull****).

In addition, their answer every time I mentioned financial aid was "we're reviewing your account still". In the mean time, A&M and especially baylor were sending me estimates of how much money they'd throw at me if I'd go with them. Finally, utsa told me they'd accidentally set me up on 2 different accounts for financial aid. Once they rectified the problem, they told me it was too late to get a lot of the funds (thanks to their bonehead mistake).

I demanded I not be punished for their incompetence, and some prick flat out said "You're really UT-Austin's student, not ours, you cant expect us to get you any housing".

So I called baylor back and asked if I could still come. they told me yes right there on the phone. Then I called A&M and they said it was unlikely, but they'd review my file. they eventually said yes, and I ended up there. I'm glad I did. Not only did they promptly find me housing and financial aid, but that summer I attended fish camp and impact (freshmen retreats), and was really welcomed by the community and helped acclimate to college life.

Freshmen year has enough difficulties as it is, and the last place you wanna be stuck is at a glorified junior college where everyone just goes to class, goes back to the dorm and barely knows you exist. If you're in the small window that can get into A&M, but not Texas, i'd definitely ignore the cap offer. Even if you cant get into A&M, I'd still strongly suggest considering tech, Oklahoma, or if you can afford it, Baylor.
