How Does Checking Premedical/Predental Block Affect Admission Chances?

Does this mean that the application is reviewed by a separate (premed) committee? And if so, does this reduce chances of admission as there is probably less slots available for students on this track? I am interested in premed but not certain that I want to go this route so is it better just to check sciences within the College and be reviewed by the mainstream Admissions Counselors? I have read that Georgetown is much more selective with prospective med students that other top universities.... Any insight into this dilemma would be appreciated!

I struggled with the same thing! I submitted my app, and I didn’t check off the pre-med box, even though I fully intend to be premed.
The thing with premed is that it isn’t a major, nor is it a special program, so you don’t have to be accepted as a premed student. We might as well help ourselves out.

Have not heard GU College has special standards for pre-meds (am an alum along with my wife). My child applied to GU EA and did check the box even though he is only leaning that way. What are you relying on? This seems like a pretty radical departure for GU and in any event, per my wife who went thorough GU’s pre-med program many moons ago, the program itself (especially organic chemistry) does a pretty good job of weeding out candidates. In any event, you guys have picked a very good school for pre-med espeically with the new science center. My wife made it into Duke med school (was from NC though), although she was just a bit above the middle of her class and had good but not great MCAT scores.
