How does Columbia college Chicago notify you if you got into the BFA MT?

I auditioned February 6 and I haven’t heard since. They keep sending me info about the school but not any of the programs. Some of my friends were rejected a month ago through snail mail and I’ve heard nothing.

@hopeful1212 My daughter received a snail-mail letter of acceptance from John Greene (the overall chair of Columbia Chicago’s theatre department) about two weeks after that same audition date.

They just emailed me and I was rejected but they lost my letter

@SpchTchr57 I see that your daughter was accepted into Columbia! I was also accepted! Would you possibly know if I could find any more info on their program?

@Rae5534 You can find the required courses for BFA MT in the most recent catalog on their website and sample programs on the theatre dept page. We have learned that there is some flexibility, though, for example, to add more dance, and that you have to pass the fundamental musicianship level or take a fundamentals of musicianship course before starting private voice (first semester is class voice). As for classes, my daughter was told that some are mixed with BA students and some are specifically for the BFAs. Lots of performance opportunities and performance outside school is encouraged. Please private message me if there’s something else you’re looking for! Congratulations on the acceptance!

Can anyone describe how the audition process went? What the structure was? Just your experience overall? I’m planning on auditioning next February and would love some advice.

@theatregeek16 (And apologies for the delay in posting). It was a long afternoon, roughly 1pm to 6pm, starting with a group information session for students and parents around 1, then a facilities tour for students only, followed by dance call, followed by individual interviews/auditions. My D felt the dance call, in particular, was a little different from other schools in that the priority was demonstrating quality of movement and knowledge of steps within short routines versus absorbing a long routine. In the individual portion, D felt the auditors were well-informed about her application and background. Out of 6 offers (3 BFA, 3 BA), she decided on the BFA MT at Columbia based on a combination of curriculum, performance opportunities (including many EMC theatres in the area, the arts-focused atmosphere, and logistics that will support her maximizing her time in focusing on theatre. Before she made her decision, the faculty arranged for her to skype into an MT Scenes class.

After admission, D learned that a bonus of this audition was that the faculty made vocal and dance class placements, which meant she could register for those classes as soon as freshman registration opened up.

One thing we have learned already (and this is probably true for many schools) is that change is a constant at CCC. Since my last post, for example, the changed prereqs for private voice were announced…Theory for MT is now a co-requisite, versus a pre-requisite; the current prereqs are MT Class Voice and Intro to Private Voice; you do need to pass an online theory placement test or a theory fundamentals class. More will be revealed as the year goes on …

Best wishes for your application process!
