How does CSU and UC differ?

Class of 2013 and I don’t think I can get my gpa up to a 3.5 for a UC b/c I’m failing lots of classes-mostly APs…I think I’ll go to a CSU instead,my gpa could probably be a 3.1 by end of junior yr so that’ll be on my transcript when I apply.I live in Cali so I could go to a CSU with a 2.00 min.
How is housing at CSU are the buildings as nice as a UC? I think its cheaper to go to a CSU anyways but I always thought it was less than a UC recently I heard its like a UC-getting the degree and stuff b/c 2 of my old elementary teachers work at the same school one went to a CSU the other a UC and they teach the same grade. Why waste $ on a degree when you can get the same job as someone that paid more? If the CSU classes are easier that’s okay with me the problem would be the social life.i’m usually shy and not a party goer aren’t there more outgoing partiers at CSUs since the gpa requirement is lower?

First of all, the UC and CSU are systems of schools. There are 9 undergraduate UC’s, and 23 undergraduate CSUs. You get a degree at both. Within the systems, there are many different types of school, from large and competetive schools in urban areas, to smaller less-competitive schools in rural areas, and everything in between. You can’t really group all CSUs or UCs together, for factors like campus life, dorms, and other campus specific factors. It is Like comparing UCLA to UC Merced; they are very different campuses What I can tell you is, the CSU System, is cheaper, usually, than the UC System.

in order to apply to a UC you must have a 3.0 not a 3.5; but the 3.5 would help.

I hope this answered some of your questions.

Many CSUs dont have dorms, and are considered commuter schools. Chico, Monterey, Sonoma State, the Cal Polys, and San Diego State are among the ones with dorms, but they may also be harder to get into if they or your major is impacted.
UCs are quite a bit more competitive, and quite a bit more expensive. Most UCs have average UC GPAa above 3.5 and cost 55k if you live on campus. But there is some financial aid.

Aww I wanted to move out and if I didn’t mess up my gpa would be a 3.5 but I guess I should focus on my major 1st

Not sure if this link will work. but i used the match function to find the campuses with housing available.

[CSUMentor - Explore Campuses - Matching Assistant](<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Find Your CSU | CSU)
What is your local CSU?

Oooops! I meant UCs cost 25 k.

No, with housing EACH year. Probably a little more than 25k for most campuses. Maybe 30k by the time you graduate.
