How does ED/EA work?

When you apply EA, do they consider 7 semesters of high school (9-11 and 1st-semester senior year) or do they only consider first 6 (9-11)?

For the schools my D20 applied EA, it was the first 6 semesters (through the end of 11th grade). Her school doesn’t finish the first semester until late January and she should have all but one of her EA decisions by that time. She applied to 6 colleges EA.

Most only consider 9-11 grades and will allow you to put “in progress” for your first semester senior courses. Other colleges require a mid-year report that includes 9-11 grades plus the grades of the courses you took the first semester of senior year.

It depends on the particular EA timeline. The mid-year report of first semester senior year grades is often not available until mid-January. Many private colleges that offer EA will release results in December, in which case first semester senior year grades cannot be considered prior to results. Some colleges that offer EA may have EA results later, such as Jan or Feb, and so it might be possible for these colleges to consider the mid-year report before releasing results.

How about UofM

For the University of Michigan they release EA decisions before senior first semester so it’s impossible for those grades to be considered.

Some of the schools my kid was looking at required a mid-term report, showing grades for classes in-progress, for ED applicants.

How does UofM do it? Do they take first semester grades into account?
