Many people on this forum seem to be touting SAT scores of 2000+ but i dont understand how everyone is doing this so easily.

I recieved my PSAT score and i ended up getting close to a 1700. I got a 610 in math, 530 CR, and 530 writing.

I didn't prep much but still, alot of people got over 1900 without doing anything. I just simply dont understand how everyone is pulling this off, i have all A's in school and i take AP classes, vs other people at my school whom just fool around and they get higher scores? I cant see how this is possible.

How can i work towards getting a higher score? I really don't want to be held back from good schools over one standardized test.

some people are just inherently good at these things..

i mean i know a guy who got 2400 first try with no prep at all...
don't worry most of us human beings need a little practice to score that high :]

The thing is, not everyone is doing this easily. You have to remember that the national average is around 1500 (though that score probably can't get you anywhere). Of course there's a few people who can get 1800+ just going in there and taking it cold, but that is definitely not the majority. But those people are also on CC for a reason = because they probably are academically curious enough, etc etc to research on the SAT in the first place, so random, average students will not expect to score that high, though some people are still naturally good standardized test takers. Most people who are scoring 2000+ are working at it and with dedication and persistence, you can too.

Get review books, practice, find techniques and strategies that work for you.

I concur. 2000+ puts you at the 95th percentile, so it's not common in the least. Delian also brings up a good point about the CC psycho-graphics- which are typically students looking for a place to boost their egos by flaunting their scores or "academically curious" students who seek information. Why is the Chance thread filled with students who have seemingly flawless stats? Because they are unnecessarily anxious and probably dedicated their entire high school career to making them selves look like that "perfect applicant". So don't be discouraged when you see eople tout their scores- instead use it as motivation and think about what you can do to ameliorate your situation. On CC, the most valuable information is just a click away, don't waste time complaining.

I agree with Zenbadabing, delions, and Lemon. Most People who are members of this website are academically curious. Most average people have "better" things to do with their time, like watching YouTube, etc., etc.. Also, remember that not all the people here have perfect stats, mostly only the ones that boast about them. There are quite a few members here that don't post or talk about their stats at all, and many of them could easily have scores similar to yours or lower. Don't worry about it, your SAT scores can go up significantly if you study. Mine went up 190 points between the first and second take. Good luck.
