Hi, I'm a Junior living in Canada.

I'm currently getting an 89% average, yet I'm not sure how to turn that to a GPA rating. In canada, our GPA system is out of 4.0, and 99.9999% of our 500-student class usually cannot reach a GPA of 4.0, since that requires you to get a 95% average in your high school career.

How does the U.S. gpa calculation process work? What is an unweighted/weighted GPA??

I'm currently getting a 3.7-3.8 out of a 4.0 GPA scale. How competitive is that? I know for a fact that there has been only one person in our grade who got a 4.0.

Jimmy, do a search on this forum for gpa and you will turn up the answer that many high schools do not weigh the grades, and many do. There is no standard way that our High Schools, or the colleges for that matter, treat the gpa. Some schools give out A's easily and some dole them out sparingly....This varies from school district to school district, can be different from one private school to the next. Bottom line, as long as you are taking and doing well in the most rigorous classes you can then the colleges will recognize that and calculate your gpa accordingly - generally....
