If a student does really poorly in a class (like a D) , I heard that they can take it over with something called "grade forgiveness". What exactly does this mean? Does the school drop the lower of the two grades or or do they get averaged together. I know that the student only gets "credit" (3 or 4 depending on the class) for ONE of the classes.

UF does not have any form of grade forgiveness. If you get an D in a class, you will have to retake it for a passing grade (C or better, if its a prereq for another class). UF includes both grades into your GPA/transcript. UF does have 4 withdrawels ( 2 before 60 credits and 2 after 60 credits) which assign you a W on your transcript, but does not affect your GPA.

oh i didn't kno about the withdrawl policy..i took macro at a local CC when I was junior but W cuz i had a B. =(

I think USF has a grad forgiveness policy, but unfortunately UF does not. But in GF, the new grade would replace the poor grade so that the former is as if it never existed. Sweet deal.

Not that it's impossible to get straight A's in college (a friend of mine did) but PLEASE realize that a "B" isn't a bad grade. I know that in high school a B might as well be an F, but one of my professors did stress that college student do not always get straight A's and might even (gasp) get a C. I haven't taken any econ classes but I do hear that they are real hard so I, personally, would have kept the B so I don't risk getter a worse grade in the harder version at UF.

Not an attack on you personally.

lol ya i should've just kept it. but i was dumb junior when i took the class and didn't realize it. and it was summer time. sigh i didn't know about CC then or i would've asked before dropping that course.

It's good that you know now rather than later and waste your "drops". Sorry for the spelling errors, I didn't proofread it (shame on me) and the edit button disappeared??

Edit button is there for 15 minutes.
