I dont really knowI how to ask this but who gets like first pick in housing? As in, my roommate and I picked matheson as our first choice but like how do we know if we're gonna get our first choice? I know at some other school, those who apply earlier usually get what they want before everyone else. I applied in early november if this is the case. Oh and the person we put on the housing app is guaranteed to be our roommate right?

…anybody?

You will find out your housing assignment, which includes your dorm and roommate on the 6th of july. It is generally on a first come first serve basis. Even I am waiting to find out my roommate and I am just hoping it is the same person I applied with.

Ahh first come first serve? Dang we didn’t apply for housing til like late april…yikes. where’d you guys apply?

There are many great things about GT, but in my son’s experience freshman housing is not one of them. He applied for housing in April '11 with the required 6 preferences on the application. He didn’t get any of them, nor was his dorm on the side of campus he indicated. Chances are you will be in Towers or Glenn, but you will survive. There are some positives, my son had a great first year and found out he is fine with either side of campus. Don’t know about specific roommate requests, maybe housing will be able to work that out.

^so you were right. Got towers and I didn’t even get the guy I picked to be my roommate…gonna be a long year

How did you find out your assignment? I didn’t get an email and the housing page still says “roommate information will be available on July 6”

Apparently there was a glitch on Tech housing last night and pretty much everybody already found out about their dorm & roommate assignments, but Tech just fixed it this morning.

Oh yea there was a glitch last night and everyone was freakin out but they fixed it. They’re not gonna put the rooming assignment up until the 9th now

Yup, it’s just housing trolling the hell out of us for beating their system.

It does stink though that pretty much everyone who was deciding between schools got stuck in Glenn or Towers.

It seems unfair, but that’s the cards we’re dealt.

I’m in the basement for Glenn. Lol I guess that’s what I get for not applying for housing until late April.

I guess the lesson is if you know you are going to Tech, apply for housing immediately. If you’re like me and had some deciding to do, then they will stick you in either Glenn, Towers, or Smith (All male dorms)

I keep trying to think about any positives there could be for us being put in glenn/towers but I literally can’t think of one. I mean, I guess I got east like I wanted but like they say, “be careful what you wish for…”

Is it likely that housing assignment may change once everything’s up on Mon?

Dear God I sure hope so. I honestly have no clue tho. I’m in towers right now so if it changes I will scream in joy like a 6 year old child on christmas

Be happy that at least you have a place to stay. I’m literally a hobo now (Overflow) thanks to Tech’s stupid 18-year-old policy that caused me to be “late” on their system while I applied for housing way back in April. Sucks !!

I’ve been hearing about that. Its kinda strange tho cuz I turned 18 on may 29th but I filled out my application in april as well but they didn’t put me in the overflow…I think I may have dine something with my housing app after I turned 18 though. That does kinda stink tho. They’re gonna put you guys in freshman dorms though still right? Or are you guys getting put in dorms with upperclassmen as well?

So, what is the 18 year old policy? My kid will not turn 18 until late September. Should I be concerned for her? I didn’t pay a ton of attention to the process… just provided the credit card when needed!

^nah you’re fine. The housing app makes you like reapply for it when you turn 18 and therefore it puts you behind everybody else. So say I applied for my housing in like January and I turn 18 in may, then since I have to reapply in May I get placed behind ALL those ppl who applied January-May. Idk why you have to reapply kinda sucks. But since your daughter turns 18 in September she’s fine. She’ll already be in her dorm and everything.

Hmm…I don’t think I made a lotta sense in my post cuz im an idiot haha but the basic message I’m getting at is your daughter is fine

No, your 1st message was fine. Policy is oh-so-bizarre, though! Thanks for the info.

Jspeed is completely correct! This policy is not only bizarre, it sucks so damn much!!
For now, we’re hobo literally. I really hope they put us in freshmen dorms. Suite is better than trad dorm but I prefer to be with other freshmen rather than upperclassmen.
