How does HS grade forgiveness look on a transcript?

I've got a -C in Algebra II Hon and I'm a Sophomore in Highschool. I can intentionally fail the exam, and then retake the class online over the summer for an A or B (which I'm condfident I can get, I just messed up big time in my 3rd quarter). They only let you retake it if your grade is D or F, that's why I'm considering intentionally failing, btw.

So my grade I got in this class would be voided and not calculated into the GPA, and the new grade would be calculated in as a replacement. HOWEVER, the old grade would still be listed on the transcript, it just wouldn't figure into the overall grade, and would note the grade forgiveness.

Would it look better for me to pass with a C (would be my only C, but wou ld mess up my only As and Bs and lower my GPA), or fail and get the grade replaced with an A or B but have the old grade listed on my transcript but voided?

Go meet with your teacher, and find out what you can do to pull your grade up into the range where you want it. Truly, failing a class looks worse (even with a re-take) than getting a C on the first try.

Not to mention of course that there is no guarantee whatsoever that you would be able to get an A or B if you re-take the class.

When you do sit down with your guidance counselor about your math coursework, do entertain the possibility that you have been accelerated past where you should have been. Math is a subject where having a solid base is absolutely critical. It is perfectly OK to slow down a bit next year and give yourself time to catch up.
