How does IB work?

there is an entrance requirement for most IB schools… mine was 7 teacher reccomendations and an essay. you can’t just start in eleventh grade.

two years of pre-ib courses (english, either geometry and alg. ii or geometry and the ib math course path of your choice, inquiry skills and world history, language, etc) and two years of full ib courses. between junior and senior year you write a 4,000 word essay on the topic of your choice, and in senior year take theory of knowledge. you have to have 150 hours of creativity, action, and service.

difference between ib and ap is you can’t pick and choose like, “oh, i’m bad at math, i won’t take ib math” or “i hate science, i’ll just take regular”. you just take an easier IB science (such as i took environmental systems.) exams are predominately essay based, except for math and sciences (but there are still essays.)

Depends on the school. An entrance exam would entirely be school operated. I know many schools here in the Americas, or at least my state, don’t have Entrance Exams. If you’re doing just Diploma, you’ll start that in the 11th grade, as it’s a 2 year programme. If your 9th and 10th grade has the MYP programme… it basically offers Pre-IB courses and adds the personal project.

Here in America, we can start in 11th grade, since most Secondary Schools with IB are under the Diploma Programme.

thank you both very much

IKR, if I got into my dream school by then, I would probably do awful in the real IB exams!

No, because you’re gonna be dedicated to rocking them.
