I am seriously considering joining my high school's literary magazine my senior year. Would this look bad, like I'm trying to "pad" my app, so to speak? Also, I might be able to become co-editor of the publication. Although I would like to join either way, I'm not sure if I should or not, given that my schedule next semester will be extremely time consuming. Would I benefit from joining in terms of the admissions process?

To be honest, I don't think it'd hurt or help too much. It'd definitely help a bit I'd say. You should join because you sound like you want to do it. I think it could help and it'd be fun for you.

Do you like the literary magazine?

Don't concern yourself with how it'll look. Do it if you like it. Honestly, though, it really won't make a difference.

I'm writing for the newspaper senior year for the first time---it's not that I didn' want to do it before, but we need to fit it into a free period, and I didn't have one until this year, otherwise I'd have written for it every year. So put it down.

I agree with snoopyiscool -- follow what you want, don't worry about applications. Right now, it won't matter much.

Thanks for the replies. And yes, I would really like to participate in the magazine. I was just hesitant because of the time factor...but I've decided to follow my initial instinct and just do it!
