How does it work? Please answer...

@ecornes19, are you focused on receiving an athletic scholarship, D1 or D2, as I don’t think FH is going to yield much? If it’s more about the opportunity to just continue with FH as a student athlete, then yes reach out to coaches in all three divisions and see what kind of feedback you get.

I don’t wish to play to receive an athletic scholarship/it wasn’t what made me think of playing in college. I like the sport and my position a lot. I was adopted after the age of 13, so I am qualified for a lot to help me financially.

But an athletic scholarship could never hurt? I’ve never looked into those…

But yes, @Chembiodad I will talk to several varying coaches. I like that idea.

@ecornes19, if you really like the sport that much, then by all means see if you can be a student athlete - it will give you so many team building skills and likely an experience you’ll always treasure

Were you a ward of the state before your adoption? You aren’t an independent for FAFSA purposes unless you were so if you were adopted by a relative or some other arranged situation might not qualify. The CSS profile for some top schools might still look to your family to pay for college.

Yes, @twoinanddone I was considered a ward of the state before I was adopted. I was not adopted by a family member either or anything arranged. However, it is still possible that my adoptive parents will be asked to pay but unlikely.

It’s not that they will be asked to pay, but that the assistance you get from the fed/state government might not be enough to afford the schools you are looking at. From the list you have, if you get in, most will be very generous. So good luck.
